Grand Prix de Pau Historique 2013 7 – 14 May

The Grand Prix de Pau Historique, previously voted the best historic meeting of the year, a must for motoring connoisseurs. A lovely old city with thrilling views of the Pyrenees, this is the oldest and most exciting of the remaining street circuits and provides great racing and a convivial atmosphere. Our hotel is very central and close to the Paddock, with excellent parking and, to assist your visit, we know the place very well having attended this event since its inception.

Tuesday 7^th May

Join the tour in Portsmouth for the overnight sailing to St Malo, we have arranged special loading lines in order to board together. Then we will meet in the cocktail bar for a chance to meet the other participants on the tour. Your on board accommodation is included. Dinner in the ship’s restaurant is optional, and can be reserved in advance on your behalf.

Wednesday 8^th May

Our first port of call is to one of our favourite coffee stops at the superb Manoir de l’Automobile, those who have been before still marvel at the extent of this private collection. After a good chance to look around and enjoy some refreshments, we continue via a suggested lunch stop to our hotel near Les Sables d’Olonne. Dinner will be taken at the hotel this evening.

Thursday 9^th May

After breakfast we head via La Rochelle to Rochefort for a look at the ‘Corderie Royale’ and the amazing ‘Hermione’ project which is the final stages of build before this famous replica frigate sets sail across the Atlantic to Boston, which will be an amazing achievement. From here it a short drive to our organised lunch at the ‘Cité des Huitres’ where we have lunch amongst the oyster beds.

It is then a pleasant vineyard drive to Libourne where we stay overnight. Having checked in and suitably refreshed we then will be picked up by private bus and taken to a Bordeaux vineyard and Chateau for a private tasting and dinner.

Friday 10^th May

Today we have suggested a pleasant route down to Pau, with a characterful lunch stop at a wonderful ferme auberge in Gascony for the group.

Upon arrival at our central hotel in Pau there is time to settle in. This evening we will lead you on foot to the competitor’s gala dinner at the Casino. This is generally a smart affair where we can mix with the drivers and teams before dinner is served.

Saturday 11^th May

Today you will have tickets for the practice and racing, with special parking by the circuit and access to the paddock and main grandstands. We have arranged parade laps of the circuit today so you obtain a driver’s eye view of this spectacular circuit. Lunch is included today for us in a private room at a restaurant in the centre of the paddock. After lunch you can enjoy the rest of the racing, your evening is free to enjoy as you wish. We can advise about restaurants etc.

Sunday 12^th May

Today lunch is included for the group in the paddock restaurant once more. This evening is free to enjoy Pau, as you wish.

Monday 13th May

After breakfast at the hotel we make our way to Santander for the cruise ferry back to Portsmouth arriving on Tuesday afternoon.

Friday 10^th May

Check in at the Quality Hotel during the afternoon and get to know Pau before the action starts. This evening we will lead you to the competitor’s gala dinner at the casino. This is generally a smart affair where we can mix with the drivers and teams competing over the weekend before dinner.

Saturday 11^th May

After breakfast you are free to make your way on foot to the circuit. Your race tickets give you access to the paddocks and grandstands. Expect to see qualifying and racing from the following grids: Formula 1 from the 60’s to late 70’s, Prototypes, Touring Cars and many more. Lunch in the paddock is included today.

Sunday 12^th May

Racing begins at 0830h and continues until 1830h. You are free to explore the different vantage points until the lunch break. Today we have organised a lunch for the group. Afterwards the racing continues around the streets of Pau.

Monday 13^th May

Check out of the hotel and make your way to the airport, the ferry port or continue your holiday in South West France.
