Itinerary

Alsace and Ardennes driving tour

We have carefully selected and driven special driving routes, hotels and experiences for you all of which will be detailed as standard in your very own tour Road Book. You will be escorted by John Marcar throughout the week who is at your service to ensure everything runs smoothly and that you have all the support you need along the way.

Monday 15th June | Eurotunnel, Folkstone to Brussels City
The tour starts with a meeting at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone, Kent. Here we will grab a morning coffee and perhaps a snack before collectively boarding the train to Calais. All cars will be loaded under supervision for assistance from CGT and Eurotunnel staff. Once through the tunnel, we will proceed to our lunchtime stop for our first optional meal as a group in Dunkirk before continuing our journey on the most direct toll-free route to Brussels (the E40 Autoroute).

The route we will be driving is the direct route from Calais. Whilst it is not the most dynamic drive, it allows for a timely arrival into the city giving you the option to unwind after your first day of travelling or to explore the local area. The group will collectively meet for a welcome drink in the hotel bar before enjoying an evening meal together within the hotels own highly regarded restaurant.

Driving to Brussels

Tuesday 16th June | Exploring the best of Brussels (Beer & Chocolate!)
Today we leave the cars safely parked at the hotel and venture out to explore Brussels with our very own tour guide and pre-arranged transport. Our tour guide will take us around Brussels and then introduce us to some of the finest local beer and chocolate producers! Following the tour, the afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy as free time.

Wednesday 17th June | Brussels to Metz via Chateau Bouillon (Ardennes)
Today the driving adventure begins as we venture south to the beautiful town of Metz in France taking in some truly beautiful roads. The drive takes us into the scenic Ardennes region famous for its luscious dark forestry that stretches up to the Black Forest of Germany. Our first stop today will be at the dramatic Château Bouillon.

The castle is regarded as one of the oldest in the region with it being referred to in writings as far back as 988AD. The castle itself is entered over three drawbridges and features incredible rooms and structures such as the 13th century Salle Godefroy de Bouillon.

Chateau Bouillon

Following the visit to the castle, you are welcome to enjoy a light lunch in the pretty town of Bouillon before continuing our drive through the Ardennes to Metz.

Our hotel is the stunning ‘Hotel La Citadelle’ in the centre of Metz. With a late afternoon arrival into Metz, you have plenty of time to relax in the hotel or wander out to see the local shops and sights. We will dine together this evening in the hotel's restaurant included as part of your tour.

Thursday 18th June | Metz to Soultz-Haut-Rhin via Alsace
We venture further south today with our first stop being the beautiful town of Colmar. Colmar is famous for its coloured canal-side houses, shops and restaurants. Following the stop in Colmar, you have the choice of a short direct drive to our next hotel, or a scenic adventure onto the world-famous roads of the Vosges and Hault-Rhin.

Our final destination for today’s drive is the area known as Soultz-Haut-Rhin in the region of Alsace where we will be spending two nights in the spectacular Les Violettes Hotel & Spa surrounded by some of the most beautiful driving roads in the region.

The scenic drive to the hotel will take in sections of the Route des Crêtes which translates to ‘route of the ridges’. The route passes over and through the Vosges Mountain region and enables you to soak up the environment and hear your exhausts echo through the forest!

The hotel offers its very own spa facilities allowing you to indulge in a vast array of treatments or the opportunity to simply relax by the pool. This evening we will enjoy a meal at the hotel included in your stay.

Driving in Alsace

Friday 19th June | A car collection, breath-taking roads & Spa Treatments
This morning we re-join the stunning local roads and drive to the city of Mulhouse for a visit to the Cite de l’Automobile also known as the Schlumpf collection. This collection of over 500 cars is an experience to behold. The driving route to the museum takes advantage of one of the most exciting roads on our doorstep and should take around an hour.

You are free to explore and enjoy the collection at your own pace with the rest of the day being free time. You could head into the centre of the city and take in the shops of Mulhouse, or, hop back into the car and explore more of the local roads with Colmar, Kayserberg-Vignoble and Ribeauville all being within a comfortable driving distance. Alternatively, you could head back to the hotel and take advantage of the fantastic spa facilities.

We will have a second meal with wine included in your stay and spend our second night at Les Violettes hotel before continuing our drive to the Champagne region.

Driving in Ardennes

Saturday 20th June | Soultz-Hault-Rhin to Champagne
Once again, we enjoy the winding roads of the Alsace region en-route to Champagne and Reims. Today’s drive is the longest of the tour, so we have recommended two stops along the way.

The recommended route starts with a selection of stunning mountain passes including the Col d’Oderen and then takes advantage of the convenient autoroutes for the less scenic parts of the drive heading north. Just like in Colmar, we have reserved a table for you in the town of Saint Dizier, which is available to you if you wish. Alternatively, you are welcome to stop elsewhere on your route.

The later part of our drive takes us into the heart of the champagne region passing by and through some of the world’s most famous champagne vineyards. We end at a stunning Château near to the famous town of Reims. This evening we will dine together with a meal including wine included in your reservation.

Epernay Tours

Sunday 21st June | Champagne Tours & Tasting
Today is our final activity day and seeing as we're located in the heart of the Champagne region it makes perfect sense to sample some of the local grapes.

We will sample a selection of wines and champagnes with the benefit of being shuttled around without any need to drive. Our guide will lead the way in explaining the region, the wines we’ll be sampling and of course most importantly, the tasting! We will visit Champagne Henry de Vaugency for a tour and tasting, before stopping for some free time and lunch in Epernay. The day will then resume with a visit, tour and tasting at the world-renowned Moet & Chandon facility before returning to the Château in the evening.

This evening we will be enjoying our final dinner at the Château with wine, once again included in your stay.

Champagne tours

Monday 22nd June | Champagne to Eurotunnel, Calais
We drive back to Calais today to return via EuroTunnel to the UK. Our drive is the direct route via the AutoRoutes and tolls which allows for mid-afternoon arrival to the Eurotunnel Terminal. Before embarking on the motorway drive, we will visit the old circuit of Reims for a photocall in front of the historic pit garages. The now fully restored grandstands offer an atmospheric setting ideal for finishing off the photo album! We can drive in convoy on the now public roads that were once the old racetrack for some additional photos before heading home.
