The Nurburgring Tours

A weekend tour to the world-famous Nurburgring including return Eurotunnel crossings, hotels and access to the pits, drivers and cars of the VLN!

Our visit to the Nürburgring coincides with a VLN competition race. VLN or ‘Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring’ which translates to ‘Community Long Distance Cup’ in English is a series of 9 races over the year ranging between 4 & 6-hour races. The VLN circuit used incorporates a combination of the smaller Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit and the large Nordschleife creating a circuit length of 16.1 miles and over 170 corners.  Competitors of VLN races range from amateurs in small road-legal cars racing cars through to professional factory teams racing the latest GT3 cars. This combination of classes leads to grids in excess of 200 cars which is truly a spectacle to witness!

The Weekend Itinerary:

Friday | Eurotunnel, Folkestone to Nürburg | 290 Miles
We meet at the EuroTunnel in Folkstone from 09.00 in time for a 10.00 train, crossing under the channel and arriving into Calais. From Calais, we drive the most direct route into Germany via France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Upon crossing the border into Germany, you will be able to drive de-restricted sections of the Autobahn. The driving time from Calais is approximately 4.5 hours allowing for some stops and we will arrive at the Nürburgring by approximately 15.00. Once everyone has checked into the hotel, in the evening we will meet for a welcome drink in the hotel for a group introduction and a run-through of the weekend.
This evening we will enjoy a meal at the hotel before being joined by some local legends who will share their stories of living, driving and racing at the Nürburgring with some Q&A time.

Saturday | Race Day | Local Mileage
Today you’re invited to experience the thrill of a VLN race. With practice sessions taking place in the morning and the official race start taking place at midday. We will offer you some viewing points within the road book with guided directions taking you to some of the most famous corners around the circuit which you’re able to explore at your own pace. All viewing points are a short drive away from each other and some corners may require a bit of a walk to reach – but if they’re in the book, they’re worth the walk!
We will meet this evening for dinner in a local favourite restaurant ahead of a day of driving the Nordschleife, we’ll also catch up with our driver for a post-race report!

Sunday | TF Driving Day | Local Mileage
Today allows for the opportunity to drive the circuit for yourself as a tourist driver. A full briefing for this will be offered on Friday evening where we will cover the essential information, advice and guidance on what to expect. You will be given a lap ticket which allows you at your own time to drive the circuit under touristenfahrten conditions.  You will also have an allocated time slot for a ‘taxi lap’. You will be taken out by a local racing driver in a performance car who will talk you through the lap as they drive you at a breath-taking pace. Once your lap and your taxi experience are complete you are free to enjoy the rest of the day however you wish either by buying and enjoying more laps, or, driving the local roads to spectate at different points around the circuit.
Our final dinner will take place at one of the most famous local restaurants in the region, The Pistonklause. Here you will be served the legendary ‘Steak on a Stone’ in a venue quite literally 'scribbled with atmosphere'. The Pistonklause is owned by the Schmitz family including the local legend and Top Gear personality Sabine Schmitz and has been a post-race meeting point for some of the worlds most iconic drivers and teams. The walls are signed and decorated with memorabilia, signatures and even car parts from the years of racing. We will end the evening with drinks in the hotel bar.

Monday | Nürburgring to Eurotunnel, Calais | 290 Miles
Today we head home but not before taking a specially selected scenic route out of Nürburg ahead of re-joining the Autobahns and autoroutes to Calais. Our drive will take us through the mountainous valleys of Eifel. The Journey once you re-join the autobahns and autoroutes is extremely straightforward back to Calais in time for our return train. Here we will say our final goodbyes and cross back under the channel to the UK.  _____________________________________________________________________________________
