Guggenheim to Gaudi CGT Tour AW Bilbao Barcelona Pamplona

Join us to experience both the little known and more famous parts of Northern Spain and its Catalunya and Basque regions. This trip has been planned to mix cultural visits with fabulous mountain driving, historic Paradors nestled in the mountains and luxury hotels with fine dining.

This is your holiday so there will be time to step out on your own to see places of interest to you and, though there are local attractions in abundance, we will offer ideas and suggestions on how to make the most of your free time.

How to book or reserve your place on any of our events, trips & tours:
Booking your place on this event couldn't be easier. The first step would be to complete the online enquiry form and we'll call you back to get you signed up.

Once we have discussed your individual options, we will send you a booking form which when completed gives us all the necessary information about you, your co-driver and your car as well as other useful extras such as dietary requirements and special requests that you might have.

You can secure a place on any of our tours, road trips or driving adventures with a deposit of just £250 per person. There's no need to worry about paying anything more until the final balance is due (usually around 8 weeks before we travel) and you're welcome to pay your final before that date if preferred. If the event you wish to join is within the next 8 weeks, we will require the full payment to be made at the time of your booking.

Minimum numbers

We have a minimum number of participants required for all of our events enabling them to be viable for us to run - this is usually 10 cars unless stated otherwise. In the event that we don't reach the minimum numbers, the tour may be cancelled at which point your booking deposit will be refunded to you, or if preferred, allocated to another event of your choice.

Itinerary

THE ITINERARY

Wednesday 16th September | Ferry Crossing UK to Spain
This tour begins with an overnight cruise from Portsmouth to Bilbao where you can relax in a large outside cabin and take advantage of the many facilities on board the ship. You may be able to catch sight of whales or dolphins as we sail across the Bay of Biscay. We will host a welcome drinks reception after boarding the ship, along with a dinner together later in the evening.

Thursday 17th September | Bilbao
Take breakfast at your leisure in the morning before disembarking and beginning our Pyrenean adventure. Our first overnight stop will be a very short drive to the Basque de facto capital, Bilbao. We will be staying in the Hotel Melia Bilbao a 5-star hotel overlooking the Euskalduna Palace and the Nervion river situated in the Indautxu region of Bilbao, known for its buzzing nightlife, contrasting traditional Basque taverns with the city’s musical hub. The afternoon will be spent at the iconic Guggenheim Museum, just a short walk along the riverside, where you can stroll around at your leisure to enjoy its collection of modern and contemporary arts and sculptures. Dinner in the evening will be at the Michelin starred Restaurant Aizian. As with all our hotel destinations, parking has been reserved for you.

Friday 18th September | Bilbao to Pamplona
After breakfast, we will depart Bilbao for Pamplona, the city world-famous for its San Fermin festival, or as it’s known around the world – the bull-running festival. So begins the first of some of wonderful roads we will drive throughout the tour. Dinner tonight is at your own choice, but we can recommend restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. Our overnight stop will be at the 5-star Gran Hotel La Perla in Pamplona, the city’s oldest hotel. This hotel was popularized by having many notable guests such as Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin and Pablo Sarasate.

Saturday 19th September | Pamplona to Huesca
Our fourth day will take us on a journey through the Pyrenees, with spectacular vistas, to our next location, the 5-star Monasterio de Boltana. A beautiful refurbished 17th-century monastery situated in the Huesca region of the Pyrenees. The hotel sits at the foot of the Castillo de Boltana, an ancient castle overlooking the mountainous surroundings. Tonight, we will enjoy dinner at the hotel, with traditional Aragonese cuisine and wines whilst overlooking the stunning views of the Pyrenees and the River Ara, the last wild river in the Pyrenees.

Sunday 20th September | Huesca to Cardona
Today we will continue our Pyrenean adventure along beautiful mountain roads, stopping where you wish to take in the breathtaking views,  by the River Esera to our next destination,  the fairytale castle that is the Parador de Cardona, a hotel situated in the historical El Bages region built around the remnants of a ninth-century cloister. The Parador is perched on a high promontory at the top of the Cardona valley, overlooking the ancient town and river. We will remain in this mountainous paradise for dinner in the hotel, tasting the Catalonian cuisine and wines of the region. The hotel is based in the historical gothic town of Cardona which you will have plenty of time to explore when you arrive.

Monday 21st September | Cardona to Barcelona
After breakfast, we will leave for our next destination: the fabulous city of Barcelona. Our route will take us a short drive through Catalonia where, for the next three nights, we will be staying in the famous 5 star and very luxurious Arts Hotel situated by the marina and beach. The hotel is an icon in the famous architectural scene of Barcelona – an extension of the world-famous Ritz Carlton hotel chain founded by Cesar Ritz, arguably the most prevalent hotelier of all time. This evening we will be visiting one of the six restaurants offered in the Hotel Arts Barcelona to enjoy Michelin star fine dining.

Tuesday 22nd September | Barcelona
Our first day in Barcelona will start with breakfast at the hotel, a truly sumptuous extravaganza of a buffet before departing by private coach on a guided tour of Barcelona including the infamous architectural works of  Gaudi such as the Sagrada Familia. Our coach will take us back to the hotel where you are free to do your own exploring of the local sights around the hotel. Dinner this evening will be at your own choice, but we will provide local restaurant recommendations close to the hotel – though there are many to choose from on the seafront, less than a ten-minute walk from the Hotel Arts.

Wednesday 23rd September | Barcelona
A rest day in Barcelona when you will be free to enjoy a day at your leisure. It is Fiesta week in Barcelona so the city will be buzzing with many places to explore. Recommendations of things to do will be made available to you.

Thursday 24th September | Barcelona to Zaragoza
After once again starting with the wonderful breakfast at the hotel, we will depart the city for our next destination, the 5-star Hotel Palafox in Zaragoza. En-route, we will stop for lunch in the town of Les Borges Blanques, a small Catalonian town boasting some of the best olives in the world. After enjoying lunch, we will head on to Zaragoza through the mountains. Once at the hotel we will experience traditional Aragonese cuisine and local wines in the Restaurante Aragonia, based in the Hotel Palafox.

Friday 25th September | Zaragoza to Rioja
Today’s drive through the Pyrenees will be from Zaragoza to the Hosteria San Millan in the Rioja region via Tudela.  In the late afternoon, we will visit a local winery to experience the harvest activities and taste their wines. The Hosteria San Millan is situated in the Monastery of Yuso, an 11th-century monastery famous for being the home of Saint Emillian. Not only is the monastery famous for its religious past but it is also recognised as the home of written Spanish and Basque languages.

Saturday 26th September | Rioja to Santander
Our final day of driving will skirt the Embalse del Ebro reservoir and the Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno on our journey to Santander. We will take a break for lunch in the historic walled town of Medina de Pomar in the province of Burgos, Castile and Leon. The town has a beautiful varied landscape with breathtaking views of the rivers Nela, Trueba and Salon, the steep slopes of the Tesla and the pine forests of Losa. After stopping for lunch, we will continue to our final destination, Santander, a vibrant city where you can leave your car safely after checking in at the ferry port to take the short walk into the city before boarding the ferry and enjoying dinner onboard.

Sunday 27th September | Ferry Crossing Spain to UK
Our last day will be spent on the ferry, where you can take advantage of the facilities. Onboard is a cinema, spa, swimming pool and several bars and cafés. We will enjoy afternoon tea together before disembarking to head for home at 19:45 hrs.
