Itinerary

Thursday 28th September 

Just north of the Scottish border in the heart of Robert Burns country, we meet up at the Auchen Castle Hotel near Moffat, for a Champagne welcome reception. Here we will enjoy a delicious three-course  dinner and will be joined by Professor David Thomson, Founder and Owner of the Annandale Distillery. Professor Thomson will entertain us with the fascinating story about the re-birth of the Distillery in 2006 after 100 years of closure. We will enjoy a tasting of Rascally Liquor©; Annandale Distillery’s new-make malt spirit.

Friday 29th September

The tour commences in earnest today, as we head north towards our evening destination - the opulent Cromlix Hotel, near Dunblane owned by the world’s number one tennis player, Andy Murray. Lunch will be taken in South Queensferry against the backdrop of the Forth Bridge. As we approach the Cromlix Hotel, we have the option to spend an hour or so at the Tullibardine Distillery in the village of Blackford – the gateway to the Highlands and just south of Gleneagles. This evening, we will dine in the Roux Restaurant at the hotel, where we will choose from menus overseen by the legendary French chef, Albert Roux.

Saturday 30th September 

After a hearty Scottish breakfast, we head off to travel some of the most spectacular roads in Western Scotland towards our evening destination at Fort William. Our route takes us through Aberfeldy and on to a 16-mile scenic drive alongside Loch Tay. In the afternoon we head directly north along open roads to Glencoe, with the option to circumnavigate around Loch Leven. Passing through Kinlochleven and North Ballachulish on to Fort William, we will experience some stunning driving roads, flirting with ‘The Great Glen’ and hugging the coast. Tonight we stay at the magnificent Inverlochy Castle – Scotland’s finest hotel and restaurant, situated just beneath Ben Nevis. This evening we hold our gala dinner in the ‘Albert and Michel Roux Jr’ Restaurant.

Sunday 1st October

Breakfast in the famous chefs’ restaurant is a feast of locally sourced delicacies. Fully sated, we pack the cars and head due south to drive along the coast to the Mull of Kintyre, immortalised in song by Sir Paul McCartney. We will enjoy more superb driving roads as we travel alongside Loch Linnhe to Portnacroish. We cross Loch Creran at Creagan, then on to Oban down to Kilmartin, Lochgilphead and Tarbert. Just before we make our final descent for the day to the beautiful coastal village of Machrihanish, we will visit the Springbank Distillery in Cambeltown. Finally, we spend the night at the Ugadale hotel on the south westerly part of the Kintyre Peninsula.

Monday 2nd October 

Today we head north, back up towards Glasgow, then east for our ‘Finale’ night at the magnificent Cameron House Hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond. We follow the lochside road to Inveraray, where we will stop for lunch. We are spoilt for choice as to which distillery to visit in the Loch Lomond area, with famous malt producers including Dewars, Bells, Dalwinnie, Glengoyne and Loch Lomond. Tonight we enjoy dinner at the Michelin starred Martin Wishart restaurant at the Cameron House. During our stay a visit to The Spa is worthwhile especially to marvel at the view from the stunning rooftop infinity pool.

Tuesday 3rd October 

After our final, hearty Scottish breakfast, we depart and head south for our return journeys home.
