Tour Manager

From 1967 to 1972 Maitland worked for J W Automotive Engineering Ltd, the Gulf sponsored John Wyer team that raced the Ford GT40, Porsche 917, and Mirage Ford with conspicuous success. Between 1968 and 1972 three sports car championships were won including the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1968 and 1969, a total of over 25 international race victories being recorded by the team.

Maitland has attended the 24 hour race over 50 times always staying at the Hotel de France, where John Wyer originally based his Aston Martin team from 1953 onwards, winning the race outright in 1959 before the Ford era.

Maitland has a wealth of information, inside stories, about those glorious days in the history of the Hotel and the Race, and helping with Steve McQueen’s “Le Mans” film. He brings enormous experience to the company, and has become an extremely popular tour manager with our clients’.
