MILLE MIGLIA CELEBRATION TOUR

MAY 2025

OVERVIEW

Exactly 70 years ago, on the 2nd May 1955, Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson crossed the finish line of the famous Mille Miglia race in his Mercedes Benz 300 SLR in a record time of 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds at an average speed of 99mph! It was an heroic effort and still considered one of the greatest victories in motorsport of all time.

The annual 1000-mile race was one of the big three events teams of the day aimed to win. The other two being the Formula One World Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hour. First run in 1927, the Mille Miglia was the biggest and most prestigious road-race in the world. It was participated in by the biggest names in the sport with the greatest cars of the time. Moss, Fangio, Ascari, Campari, Nuvolari, Taruffi and Varzi, driving Bugattis, Alfa Romeos, Ferraris and Mercedes – it was a place where legends were born and sadly died too. The race became so dangerous that after a fatal accident in 1957 it was stopped permanently, and Moss’s 1955 record would stand for eternity.

In May 2025, to honour and celebrate the 70th anniversary of Moss’s iconic win, Classic Grand Touring are putting on a celebratory tour to retrace Moss’s wheel tracks over. Over ten glorious days (one day for each hour he raced), we will drive the original route, but we will have several luxuries Moss did not. We will have time to explore the towns he raced through and visit sites he did not have time to see. We will be fully immersed in the Italian way of life, visiting the best towns, eating in great restaurants, staying in wonderful hotels and visiting interesting places not only automotive related that capture the essence of the wonderful country that Italy is! Eligible cars will be vintage, classic and modern sports cars.
